Safety and risks in meditation

Attention Academy is an educational meditation program. It provides structured attention training and emotional regulation practices. It is not medical, psychological, or psychiatric treatment.

No Medical Advice
The content of this course is for educational and self-development purposes only. It does not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Participation does not create a therapeutic or clinical relationship. If you are currently under the care of a GP, psychiatrist, psychologist, or other healthcare professional, you are encouraged to consult them before beginning any new meditation practice.

Not a Substitute for Professional Care
This course is not a substitute for therapy, counselling, psychiatric care, or prescribed medication. You should not discontinue medication or alter treatment without consulting a qualified medical professional.

Mental Health Considerations
Meditation is generally safe for most people. However, for a small number of individuals, particularly those with the listed prexisting conditions, introspective practices may temporarily increase emotional intensity or discomfort:

  • Severe anxiety disorders
  • Trauma-related conditions
  • Dissociative tendencies
  • Psychosis or a history of psychotic episodes
  • Severe depression

If at any time you feel overwhelmed, distressed, dissociated, or emotionally destabilised, you should stop the practice immediately and seek appropriate professional support.

Personal Responsibility
By participating in this course, you acknowledge that:

  • You are voluntarily engaging in meditation practices.
  • You are responsible for monitoring your own physical and emotional wellbeing.
  • You will stop any practice that causes discomfort or distress.

Meditation guidance is invitational and non-coercive. You are encouraged to adapt, modify, or discontinue practices as needed.

Physical Safety
Some practices include seated meditation and walking meditation. You are responsible for ensuring that:

  • Your physical environment is safe and free of hazards.
  • You are medically fit for light physical movement (e.g., walking meditation).
  • You do not practice while driving or operating machinery.

ADHD & Neurodivergence
Attention Academy is designed to support attention and regulation skills in individuals with ADHD and self-identified Attention Deficit traits. It does not claim to treat, cure, or eliminate ADHD. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental difference and may require multi-modal support including medical, psychological, educational, and behavioural interventions.

Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the course facilitator is not liable for any direct or indirect loss, injury, or damage arising from participation in this course.

If you are unsure whether meditation is appropriate for you, consult a qualified healthcare professional before proceeding.
